It would not be an exaggeration to say that the establishment of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was an important cultural event of the contemporary world. In a short period of time, Hare Krishna movement of Bhaktivedanta brought about an unprecedented revolutionary change in the cultural and spiritual discourse of the western world. In 1965, Bhaktivedanta reached New York as a Sanyasin at the age of 70 years. Today, his movement has its centers in more than150 major cities of the world wherein thousands of Sanyasin and almost a million devotees are engaged in the task of absorbing and disseminating Krishna consciousness.
