Dwarka is situated near the Western shores of India on the banks of the Gomati, in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat.
It is one of the most sacred places in the world and is one of the seven ‘Puris', other six being Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika, Mathura, Mayapuri, Ayodhya; one of four ‘Dhams', the other three being Badrinath, Puri and Rameshwaram. One of the twelve ‘Jyotirlingas', the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, is also situated here. Adi Shankaracharya established Sharadapeetham, one of the four ‘Peethas', here.
Since time immemorial, the place has attracted saints and spiritual seekers, especially the Vaishnavas (worshippers of Vishnu). Many of them chose this place for their spiritual practices.
Dwarka is also associated with Krishna. Krishna killed Kamsa, his maternal uncle. Jarasandh, Kamsa's father-in-law, was enraged and attacked Mathura repeatedly. The Yadavas moved to Dwarka at Krishna's suggestion. Vishvakarma, architect of gods, built the city. According to the Mahabharat the ancient city of Dwarka was submerged after the departure of Shri Krishna to His abode, Vaikunth. The Yadavas had killed each other in a drunken brawl before Shri Krishna cast off His body. To experience Shri Krishna's consciousness, thousands of pilgrims visit Dwarka every year.

Some places to visit are-
Dwarkanath Temple- Krishna's grandson, Sambha is believed to have built the five-storey temple. The temple is made of sandstone and has two gateways, the entrance gate being called the Swargdwar and the exit gate, Mokshadwar. The main shrine is dedicated to Dwarkanath, Shri Krishna. There are shrines dedicated to Vasudev and Devaki, Balram and Revati, Subhadra, Rukmini and Satybhama, too.
Sharda Peeth- This is situated beside the temple. Adi Shankaracharya founded this math. Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati is the present Shankaracharya of this Peeth.
Rukmini Devi Temple- It is situated 3km away in the direction of Betdwarka from the main city. Rukmini, after being cursed by Maharshi Durvasa, is said to have performed her penance here.
Nageshwar Mahadev- It is situated 20km away from the main city of Dwarka. According to Shivpuran, Supriya, a devotee of Lord Shiva, was imprisoned by Daruka, a demon. Supriya, along with the other prisoners, recited the Pankakshara mantra. The Lord appeared in the form of a Jyotirling and killed the demon using the Pashupatastra. The renovation of the temple recently took place, as well as the building of a 60ft high idol of the Lord.
Gopi Talab- This is a fresh-water pond near which the Gopis are said to have stayed when they came to see Lord Krishna. It is on the way to Bhetdwarka.
Bhetdwarka- Bhetdwarka is an island which can be reached by motorboat and is where Shri Krishna lived. He had been residing here when his friend Sudama came to meet him and gave him the bhet (gift) of rice. A temple of Shri Krishna has been built here and has a shrine each dedicated to Dwakanath, Jambavati Devi, Satyabhama Devi and Rukmini Devi. An ashram has been built here by Prembhischu-ji. The ashram is about 5km from the temple. It is said to be the place where Hanuman first met his son. A temple dedicated to Hanuman and his son, Makaradhwaj can also be found here. Near this, an Udasin Ashram is situated. Remains of the ancient city of Dwarka were found submerged in the sea here by the Indian Oceanography Marine Archeological Unit.
Other important places which may be visited are-
Harinam Sankirtan Mandir, Swaminarayan Temple, Brahm Kund, Gayatri       Shaktipeeth
