The purpose of this practice is to ensure that the body is kept cool. Here, the inhalation is done through the mouth and exhalation is done through the nostrils. Another function of this exercise is to make the aspirant cool and calm. Even as this exercise is performed, it is essential that one's diet consists merely of milk and fruit. Kumbhaka would promote a love of study and solitude and also impart an ability to go into a trance. Once this Pranayama is perfected, it would become easy for the aspirant to counteract the effects of any external or internal injury. Such a practitioner would also find it easy to escape inflammation or fevers like crabs, lobsters, serpents, lizards, frogs, salamanders and turtles. In case there are any inflammations of the spleen or if there are any other organic diseases they can be cured too.
