Jupiter

Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. Ancient astronomers named Jupiter after the king of the Roman Gods. Jupiter is associated with expansion, growth and opportunity. It represents the higher mind, wisdom, enthusiasm, optimism, benevolence and generosity. Jupiter's action is to expand, preserve and increase on all levels. Jupiter’s symbol is the crescent of personality raised above (or uplifted by) the cross of matter. It represents man’s (the crescent’s) triumph over earthly experiences (the cross) through his understanding of universal law. Thus the symbol of Jupiter symbolizes that mind has risen over matter, which means preservation has risen over destruction; hence chief motivation of Jupiter is preservation, Jupiter itself ruling over preservation and creation.

In astronomy, the naked-eye planets are the five planets of our solar system that can be discerned with the naked eye without much difficulty. They are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, the five planets closest to Earth.

Vedic astrology assigns the quality of "sattvic" (pure) to Jupiter, and gives it the element of "ether," the fifth element in addition to the traditional four of earth, air, fire and water. It is called the planet of "dharma" and governs wealth. In Hindu mythology it is known as ‘Dev guru’ guru of gods. Jupiter is called as ‘Guru’ (spiritual teacher) or ‘Vrihspati’. It governs creativity, high principles, and other good things such as intelligence. It is the planet whose astrological condition reflects the avenues and ways that bring joy in our lives, including creative activity and children.

Jupiter is known as ‘Greater fortune’. It is also known as the ‘Great Benefic’ or ‘the planet of luck’. The word ‘benefic’ literally translates as “doing good.” Jupiter signifies luck and good fortune. People with a strongly-placed Jupiter in their birth charts were regarded as likely to be lucky and successful people. The planet is responsible for success, fortune, luck, and fame. Jupiter is an important planet for females (their married life and its success). People with high ambitions, priests, religious teachers, ministers, politicians are all influenced by Jupiter. People under the influence of Jupiter are jovial, lively and good tempered.

Jupiter preserves through food, financial help and social help in hours of crisis. Jupiter rules the sign Sagittarius and sympathetically co-rules the sign Pisces (along with Neptune). It is more powerful in all water and fire signs and decidedly weak in all air and earth signs. Jupiter is exalted in the sign Cancer and is debilitated in the sign Capricorn. Jupiter’s detriment is in the sign Gemini and in the sign Virgo. Jupiter along with Venus, the ‘lesser fortune’ represents the altruistic and expansive vibrations and expansion principle and both rule money jointly. Where as Venus represents this expansion or love in a personal selfish sense, Jupiter represents this expansion or love towards society or country, as a whole.

Jupiter is known as the 11th hour or last time friend i.e. the planet that helps, when no other help seems to come, at the last moment. Jupiter teaches us that lessons we have learned through any misfortune that overtakes, are worthy of true wisdom. Jupiter represents knowledge, wisdom, and offspring of the individual. Hence, Jupiter is the planet of moral or spiritual wisdom. Jupiter expands and spends. It represents the collective moral intelligence of society. Jupiter rules the number 3 (three) and the entire trinity; the second most lucky number in numerology. His color is bright yellow.

In Hindu mythology it is known as ‘Shiva Sawroop’ the force of preservation and recreation. Jupiter’s position tells us, where a person expands his horizon i.e. where he does things on a large scale. Jupiter’s positions in signs also give information regarding a person’s ethical, religious, and moral standards. His position in the sign also gives us an idea about where a person is generous and where he reaches out to a larger social order, thus receiving help and benefit in return. Jupiter’s sign and house position gives an idea about the source, from where the greatest fortune, success and material benefits, as well as spiritual protection come from. Jupiter due to its co-rulership of the sign Pisces (along with Neptune) is the ruler of “karmic Phal’ i.e. The Karmic reward of our past actions and deeds. This Karma he rules jointly with Saturn. Jupiter makes the character noble and generous, as well as easy going. Jupiter rules the principle of give and takes i.e. cooperation required to build large organizations. Jupiter is the planet of positive faith in God. It is the planet that makes a man think about the well being of society and country. It is the planet of positive thinking and optimism. Jupiter represents foresight and vision in an individual, though influences of other great epoch making planets like Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are also important. Jupiter is a strongly masculine and fiery planet. Jupiter governs the lungs, the liver, the veins and blood (along with Mars).Jupiter when well expected in a horoscope can make an individual a visionary, generous, magnanimous, temperate, just and good. When afflicted or ill-expected, it causes one to be easygoing, shallow in thinking, lazy, indifferent, and careless. Jupiter is the god who walketh among men.

Jupiter due to exaltation in cancer is decisive in matters like home, finance and accounting. In Hindu astrology, conjunction of Jupiter with moon gives rise to ‘Gajkesari Yoga’ the yoga that gives tremendous fame, if this conjunction is found in 4th or 1st house. Jupiter is the motivator for ‘Daan’ or charity and generosity. According to both Indian and western astrology, Jupiter is highly friendly or co-operates very well with Sun, Moon and Mars. He is the enemy of Venus. He is neutral towards Saturn according to Indian astrology. Jupiter is the planet of Spiritual philosophy. Jupiter represents all those qualities that uplift humankind. Along with other things, Jupiter rules over laughter and frankness. Jupiter stone is ‘Yellow Topaz’ or ‘Pukhraj’ .It is bright yellowish in colour. Jupiter’s metal is brass. Its day is Thursday. It is associated with the color green and blue.
