Venus

Venus is the second planet from the sun in the solar system and the brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon. It is known as the earth’s ‘twin’ because the two planets are so similar in size. The diameter of Venus is about 12,100 kilometers, about 644 kilometers smaller than that of earth. No other planet comes closer to earth than Venus. At its closest approach, it is about 41.4 million kilometers away.

As seen from the earth, Venus is brighter than any other planet or even any star. At certain times of the year, Venus is the first object that can be seen in the western sky in the evening. At others times, it is the last object that can be seen in the eastern sky in the morning .When Venus is near its brightest point, it can be seen in daylight.

Venus was a major goddess in Rome mythology. She originally was the goddess of love and beauty, but later she symbolized the creative force that sustains all life. Cupid, the Roman god of love, was her son.
Venus was also the mother of Aneas; an ancestor of the legendary founders of Rome. The Romans worshipped her and dedicated some of their most important temples to her. They believed that the family of the ruler Julius Caesar descended from Venus.
Venus was born full-grown from the foam of the Mediterranean Sea. She married Vulcan, the lame and ugly blacksmith god. Venus had a love affair with Mars, the God of War and also loved Adonis, a mortal.
Venus plays an important part in a famous myth called the judgment of Paris. Venus and goddess Juno and Minerva all claimed a golden apple, a prize reserved for the most beautiful goddess. To settle the argument, the god Jupiter ordered Paris, the king of Priam of Troy, to choose the most beautiful of three. Paris chose Venus. In revenge, Juno and Minerva ensured that Troy was destroyed in the Trojan War.
Venus has been a popular subject for painters. Many paintings show her admiring herself in mirror. Others show the judgment of Paris or show Venus with Mars or Adonis.
Venus represents lust and passion amongst living organism. She likes enjoyment and pleasure and has an attractive personality. Venus has a white body with variegated colour. Venus is a star planet. She is extremely brilliant when she is 47 degrees away from the Sun. Venus rises with the head foremost. Venus is the lord of the vegetable and animal kingdom. Venus’s stone is ‘Diamond’ or ‘Heera’. Its other stone is ‘White Zircon’. Venus’s metal is copper. Friday is related to Venus .Its direction is southeast. Venus rules over the number 6 in numerology. Clothing associated with Venus is long lasting fabrics. Venus is the lord of  Vasant or the spring season. The particular area owned by Venus is the bed chamber (river bank).Venus is the lord of Yajur-veda. She is windy, and phlegmatic by nature and pleasant in speech. Venus is Brahmin in caste, Rajasik in nature with feminine instincts. Her element is water. Venus looks sideways. The character of Venus is light or easy. Venus gives a symmetrical body, has a liking for sour taste, and makes one a person of high tastes, passionate, loving, romantic, well-informed and enterprising. Venus shed an agreeable light hence she is benefic. She enhances her social image and has an urge for socializing.

Venus rules over all types of glamour, perfumes, music, dance, romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, luxuries, wealth, jewelry, and acting ability. Venus shows how a person manifests his or her emotions in personal relationships, love, and marriage. It also gives an idea about how a person cares for his personal possessions, money, comforts, social- aesthetic values, and manners. Venus along with Jupiter represents the altruistic and expansive vibrations. But Venus represents the love in a personal way, where as Jupiter represents the love for the society as a whole. So Venus is more realistic or selfish in nature .Venus makes one a lover of comforts, luxury, money and glamour. When Venus is prominent in the horoscope of an individual, it bestows favors and kindness from friends. A great deal of good fortune in the form of gifts is bestowed upon the individual by his or her friends. When Venus is dominant in the horoscope, a person will have powerful friends, who will help him or her and make his or her path pleasant and happy. If afflicted and ill-placed, Venus would lead to voluptuosness, making a native profligate, careless, amorous, and indiscriminate with an inclination for unhealthy company.

Venus gives many opportunities of marriage and love. These opportunities are due to beauty of the individual and well proportioned features, which Venus bestows. When Venus is dominant force, persons should marry late because in early age only motivation behind marriage is sex and once this feeling wears off, there is nothing lasting in the marriage to hold it together. Venus rules beauty of form in humans and gives well proportioned features.

In Hindu mythology, she is called “shukra” or “Daitya Guru” i.e. guru of demons (ashuras).Synonym of Shukra is Daityaguru, Kavya , Ushna, Bhargava, Kavi, sit, Aasfujit ,Bhrigusut ,Bhrigu etc. ‘’Shukranitisar’’ belongs to the Shukra tradition. Shukra is the son of the great seer Bhrigu. Bhrigu was an astrologer and taught his son all the spiritual sciences and scriptures. Because of  Shukra’s enmity with Brihaspati (Jupiter), he agreed to be the teacher of the asuras (antigods or demons). When Shukra became the preceptor of the asuras, in order to protect them against the gods and sub gods he worshipped Shiva and learned from him the method by which he could make them alive when they were killed in battle.

Venus is the Goddess of love, beauty, and glamour. The symbol of Venus indicates that soul has risen over matter that means creation has risen over destruction; hence her chief motivation is creation. Venus herself represents creation and preservation. Venus is representative of feminine (other than mother represented by moon) well wisher and submitting women in men’s horoscopes i.e. before marriage sister and after marriage wife. It is known as “lesser fortune” in western astrology, where as Jupiter is known as “greater fortune.”

Venus makes one a lover of pleasure, easy going and adherent to the line of least resistance. Venus rules over both vocal and instrumental music and all that is soothing. A strongly placed Venus in the horoscope makes one lover of music and other artistic talent.

Venus rules over the signs of Libra and Taurus (along with Apollo) and is exalted in the sign Pisces, whereas it is debilitated in the sign Virgo. Venus is more powerful in the air signs. But it is also powerful in water signs except Scorpio and earth signs except Virgo. Venus is decidedly weak in fire signs. Venus rules over civil engineering.
