| Dwarka is situated near the Western shores of India on the banks of the Gomati, in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat. It is one of the most sacred places in the world and is one of the seven ‘Puris', other six being Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika, Mathura, Mayapuri, Ayodhya; one of four ‘Dhams', the other three being Badrinath, Puri and Rameshwaram. One of the twelve ‘Jyotirlingas', the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, is also situated here. Adi Shankaracharya established Sharadapeetham, one of the four ‘Peethas', here.
